What is Janus?
Janus is Niyata’s Linux‑based edge‑gateway software that links diverse devices to your cloud or on‑prem systems. Process data locally, respond in real time, and scale with confidence, without disrupting what already works on the shop floor.
The platform bridges sensors, meters, PLCs, and controllers with IT systems using open, widely adopted standards such as MQTT, OPC‑UA, and Modbus. By running logic at the edge, it keeps endpoints light and enables quick, reliable responses in plants, substations, and other environments.
How Janus works ?
- Connect devices over serial or Ethernet and choose the appropriate protocol.
- Process data nearby—filter noise, convert units, evaluate thresholds or simple patterns, and raise events.
- Deliver summaries and alerts securely to dashboards, data lakes, or MES/ERP via MQTT/HTTPS.
Outcome: the right data reaches the right system at the right time.
Why teams choose Janus?
- Broad connectivity: Integrate old and new equipment without touching control logic.
- Edge intelligence: Run rules and light analytics locally for low latency.
- Flexible routing: Direct data by device, tag, or topic to the systems you already use.
- Built‑in security: Encrypt links, use certificates for identity, enforce roles, and apply signed software.
Typical use cases
Real-time production
performance (OEE)
Janus reads machine signals and calculates uptime, speed, and good parts at the edge.
Predictive maintenance
Janus watches vibration and temperature to spot early warning signs.
Traceability &
quality checks
Janus links lot/serial data to each part and enforces quick in-line checks.
